“When words become unclear, I shall focus with photographs. When images become inadequate, I shall be content with silence.”
— Ansel Adams
About Ann Cunningham

Storyteller • Dreamer • Dog Lover
I fell in love with photography the same way I fell in love with writing.
Obsessively. Both are my favorite forms of storytelling. Whether I'm putting words on the page or composing through my lens - I'm doing work I'm passionate about.
For as long as I can remember, I've been creating. My first camera was a
hand me down Brownie, given to me by my dad. I spent a lot of allowance
money on film and developing. A lot has changed since digital became king!
*My stories and essays have been featured in a variety of publications, including magazines, newspapers and in 19 Chicken Soup for the Soul books. Currently, I'm working on a memoir, middle-grade novel and a collection of humor essays. lf you're interested in learning more, visit my author page.

I believe portrait sessions should do two things: capture/preserve
memories and provide an enjoyable experience for everyone.
When you work with me, I want you to have fun, and feel comfortable about being yourself. My goal is to create casual shoot and capture your personality.
I love "portrait season" in the Black Hills - that June - October time period when the weather is warm and beautiful and every location is lush and inviting. Some of my favorite locations include Stockade Lake, Hill City Visitor Center, Sylvan Lake and my outdoor studio on the west end of Custer. (the old, red tractor is a favorite prop/background; especially for kids)
